An MRI scan uses a strong magnetic field. In addition, a contrast medium is administered through an IV. This makes blood vessels, bile ducts, the drainage of the pancreas and tumors more visible. This examination is more commonly used for, for example, pancreatic cysts or imaging of the bile ducts and the pancreatic duct. During the examination, you will be moved slowly through a tube-shaped scanner over approximately 40 minutes. The scanner creates a series of 'slice' images of the body.
Afterwards, the radiologist examines all images in detail and assesses any abnormalities that are found.
