ERCP

ERCP is an abbreviation for Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangio and Pancreaticography. It is an internal visual examination of the bile ducts and the duct of the pancreas. During the ERCP, the doctor can create images of the bile ducts and the pancreatic duct using contrast or a video camera. In addition, an intervention can be performed during the procedure, such as removing a gallstone or pancreatic stone, placing a (plastic or metal) stent in the bile duct or in the duct of the pancreas or taking a biopsy. The examination is performed under a light anesthetic. You must be examined by an anesthetist prior to the examination.
